KARACHI: The Directorate General of Transit Trade has registered an FIR against an importer and it’s clearing agent for mis-declaration of goods and import of banned items through transit trade.

According to the details, Zubair Wali Ahmed Zai Ltd an Afghan based importer filed a Goods Declaration (GD) through its authorized Clearing Agent Akmal Rafay International for transit of a consignment imported from China and declared the item as electric drills, ladders, radios, and plastic bottles in GD.

While, Directorate General of Transit Trade already had information about the consignment, that the importer in connivance with customs agent would attempt to clear these goods which are banned.

Therefore, the suspected GD was selected for examination by the respective examination section to confirm the description, quantity, brand, origin and other aspects.

The examination staff examined the goods and found undeclared and restricted items including 3744 cans of liquor (beer) valued at $7392 and auto parts worth $1750 totaling $9142 besides other undeclared items including inventors, polyester/cotton jackets, electrical switches, iron and assorted drill machines, perfumes, electrical cutting machine, etc., worth Rs5.795 million.

Therefore, it became evident that the importers M/s ZubairWali Ahmed Zai Ltd. in connivance with the Clearing Agent M/s. Akmal Rafay International attempted to smuggle contrabands and banned goods by way of mis-declaration and concealment in the garb of transit goods.

Later, the FIR was lodged accordingly against the importer and clearing agent while goods were seized.
