Wagha LFU collects only Rs 34 million as taxes on imports in 15 days

LAHORE: Pakistan has collected Rs 34 million as taxes in the first 15 days of May, while total taxes to the tune of Rs 137.4 million were collected in the first 15 days of April 2015.

Revenue generation in the wake of different taxes at Wagha border has fallen by up to Rs 102 million.

According to statistics available with Customs Today, Pakistan import tomatoes, soya products, polythene and its products and many other items from India. Different taxes are applied on the import of soya, PE, PP and its products, and in the first 15 days of May, only Rs 34 million was collected on imports.

Pakistan has generated revenue of Rs 18 million on import of soya, in which sales tax stands at Rs 11 million and income tax Rs 7 million. Moreover, Rs 6.5 million has been generated through sales tax on polythene and its products.

The total revenue generated via trade through Wagha is Rs 34 million, in which the share of sales tax is Rs 24 million and income tax is Rs 10 million. Moreover, duties collected on imported items in first 15 days of April was Rs 34 million, sales tax Rs 48 million and income tax Rs 54 million.
