83,475 skins sent to China: FBR urged to ban export of donkey hides

ISLAMABAD: Federal Revenue Board (FBR) has been asked to impose ban on export of donkey hides as 83,475 hides of the animal were sent to China only from January 2014.

The top revenue authority was urged by the Pakistan Model Customs Collectorate of Exports through a letter. As there is no restriction in Export Policy Order on export of the donkey hides.

The said quantity of exported donkey hides is from only one Collectorate, the number may get further alarming if data of other collectorates is counted.

According to a Customs official, the export tendency of donkey hides grown at the end of 2013 as China and Hong Kong are the main markets for the export of donkey hides, where price of one piece is around Rs25,000. He said that 98 per cent hides used to be exported from Punjab by sea.

Lahore and Kasur are open markets of donkey hides where the exporters bought one donkey hide in Rs5,000 to 8,000 and sold for Rs25,000 to 27,000 in specific countries’ market, he added.
