Vietnam’s imports of autos from China nearly triple in 2015

HANOI: In the first four months of 2015, the number of completely built unit (CBU) automobiles imported from China into Vietnam nearly tripled compared to the same period of 2014, according to Vietnam Customs on Tuesday.

Specifically, Vietnam imported some 8,860 CBU units from China, up 289% year-on-year.

China thus topped markets for imported autos into Vietnam during the period, Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade quoted Vietnam Customs as saying on Tuesday.

South Korea and Thailand ranked second and third on the list with 7,740 and 6,850 CBUs, respectively. In total, Vietnam imported over 35,000 CBUs worth nearly US$880 million in the period of January-April. The figures posted a sharp increase of 131% in volume and 180.6% in value year-on-year, reported VITIC.

Earlier, according to a report by Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), in April alone, nearly 18,200 autos were sold in Vietnam, up 11% against March and 60% year-on-year.
