PARIS: The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s most powerful particle collider, has set a new energy record ahead of its full restart in June. Research organization European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) announced that the collider smashed proton particles at a sped of 13 trillion electronvolts.

On May 21, CERN released pictures of the fallout. The LHC is located in a 27-kilometer tunnel under the Swiss-French border. In April this year, the particle collider was started again after a pause of about two years. According to reports, the particle collider was stopped to repair and upgrade.
During a test run this week, the proton collided with each other with energies of about 13 tera-electronvolts. It was about double the previous power of the collider, as per the reports.
While talking to Live Science, Greg Rakness, the researcher who runs experiment called CMS at the LHC, said, “It doesn’t sound like very much, but if you have a mosquito buzzing around, the amount of energy it takes to keep that mosquito floating is about the energy of one of these collisions”.
