The biggest single shipment of grain that grain handler GrainCorp has loaded in Brisbane is being prepared. A ship is being loaded with 66,000 tonnes of sorghum sourced mostly from southern Queensland and will leave for China by the weekend.
Brisbane GrainCorp terminal manager Josh Connell said the record breaking shipment was an exciting milestone for grain growers in Queensland.
“It’s GrainCorp’s largest sorghum vessel and it’s the largest vessel we have loaded on behalf of anyone (in Brisbane), this one is for ADM,” he said. “It certainly looks like it’s our biggest individual pour.”
Mr Connell said the grain could be used in a variety of ways once it was unloaded in China. “Sorghum into China typically goes three ways, it’s either stock food or they make a cereal for human consumption or alcohol.”
