KARACHI: The Customs Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Karachi region recovered a large quantity of charas and opium concealed in the hidden cavities of a Toyota Surf Jeep from Boat Repair Area, Fisheries Boat Harbour Karachi.
A First Information Report (FIR) No. B-896/DCI/2015 has been registered against unknown, to be ascertained during investigation. The FIR was lodged by the complainant S.Meraj Alvi SIO of DG intelligence.

According to the details, Senior Intelligence Officer/ Incharge Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Haji Aslam received information from some sources that a large quantity of narcotics comprising charas and opium would be smuggled abroad through fishing boats, via Fisheries Boat Harbour Karachi.
In pursuance of the above stated information, Haji Aslam constituted a team of intelligence officers consisting of Akmal Hashmi, Munir Ahmed Chandio, Qasim Alvi, and Munawwar Hussain those started surveillance of the area near Fisheries Boat Harbour, Karachi on May 25, 2015, in presence of two witnesses namely Rafaqat Hussain, Driver, and Habibullah, a Sepoy spotted a suspected/abandoned Toyota Surf Jeep affixed with registration plate/ Mark BC-5031, parked near Boat Repair Area.
Upon query regarding ownership/whereabouts of the vehicle, no person came forward to claim the ownership or having any knowledge about the said vehicle.
Upon cursory checking conducted in presence of the witness the vehicle was found locked, therefore, the vehicle was got opened with the help of tools. During checking the front doors of the vehicle were found heavier. Upon opening of the right door some packets of aluminium foil paper packing and some packets wrapped with plastic tape stuffed with narcotics substances were recovered.
The vehicle was later escorted to the office of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation where detailed checking was conducted.
During the search 37 packets of aluminium foil paper packing stuffed with charas bearing marks 555/707 weighing 37 kilograms(Gross) and 21 plastic tape wrapped packets stuffed with Opium weighing 20.640 kilograms (Gross), without any marks, were recovered.
Approximate value of the recovered charas was estimated up to Rs. 18.5 million in the international market while the recovered opium value approximately was up to Rs.14.5 million in the international market.
The recovered narcotics and the Toyota Surf Jeep (Black colour) were seized against preparation of proper inventory and Mushirnama/recovery memo, duly signed by the witnesses for violation of Section 6, 7, 8 and 14 of CNS Act 1997, punishable under Section 9(C) ibid read with sections 15, 21, 22 and 23 of CNS Act 1997.
