Karachi: Collector Adjudication-I reserves judgement into PTCL tax evasion case

KARACHI: Collector of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Farid Iqbal Qureshi has reserved the judgement in M/s PTCL tax evasion case after hearings para-wise comments presented by representative of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Saudul Hassan. Pervez Iqbal Kasi represented M/s PTCL, M/s Ryan Agencies-clearing agent and M/s Huawei Technologies.

During the hearing, Saudul Hassan appealed before the Collector of Customs Adjudication-I Farid Iqbal Qureshi to engage clearing agent M/s Ryan Agencies along with the local contractor M/s Huawei Technologies in the case.

Later, the departmental representative of M/s PTCL Pervez Iqbal Kasi submitted his para-wise comments regarding the case.

Collector Farid Iqbal Qureshi, after the hearing, reserved the judgement for indefinite period.

Sources informed Customs Today that the Order-in-Original (ONO) regarding the tax evasion case of M/s PTCL would likely to be issued in the first week of June.

Responding to a query, the sources further said that the ONO would likely to be issued against M/s PTCL in tax evasion case.

It is pertinent to mention here that it was the eighth hearing into the case adding that the Collector-Customs Adjudication-I in last seven hearings has listened the view points of all concerned parties.

It may be mentioned here that it was the sixth tax evasion case against M/s PTCL in which it was allegedly involve in importing telecommunication equipments in violating the Customs Act, 1969.

Before this case, five more tax evasion cases linked with the M/s PTCL have been decided in both the Collectorates of Customs Adjudication I and II.

It may also be mentioned here that the detecting agency i.e. the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR had booked the importer M/s PTCL and its contractor and clearing agent in massive tax evasion amounting to Rs170 million in import of telecommunication equipments through Green channel.
