KEMPTON PARK: The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has discovered almost 10 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a female passenger’s bag at OR Tambo International Airport.
According to SANews.gov, the cocaine was found in a false compartment of a bag belonging to a Guyanese passenger.
The passenger was in transit from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Maputo, Mozambique when she was stopped by customs officers.
“During inspection, cocaine weighing 9.985kg, valued at R2 872 684 was found concealed in 10 handbags in a false compartment of her luggage. The passenger was handed over to the SAPS for further investigation,” SARS said.
“SARS will continue to do everything in its power to ensure that illicit substances, such as narcotics, are prevented from entering or leaving our country,” the tax and customs watchdog added.
