Adjudication-I prepares show cause notice for M/s Warid Telecom over ‘tax evasion’

KARACHI: The authorities concerned of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I have prepared a show cause notice for M/s Warid Telecom for the company’s alleged involvement in tax evasion of Rs 20 million during import of telecommunication gadgets.

According to details, the officials concerned of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR on a secret information about mis-declaration by M/s Warid Telecom in imported consignments.

During the examination, the customs authorities found that M/s Warid Telecom imported ASR 500-Multimedia Core Platform while applying the PCT 8471.5000, which attracting 1 percent customs duty, sales tax and income tax.

Further investigations revealed that the consignment that was imported by M/s Warid Telecom fell under PCT 8517.6290, which attracted 10 percent customs duty, sales tax and income tax.

Later, the authorities concerned of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi found that the importer M/s Warid Telecom attempted to evade duty/taxes amounting to Rs 20 million on imported consignments.

Subsequently, the authorities concerned of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence made the contravention report against importer M/s Warid Telecom and forwarded it to the authorities concerned of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I for further legal proceedings.

The authorities concerned of Customs Adjudication-I after thorough study of the contravention report have now prepared a show cause notice that will be served on importer M/s Warid Telecom to present its viewpoint on June 5.
