OTTAWA: Canadian gas imports into the United States have dropped to their lowest level since 1987, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Friday.
Rising US gas production from domestic shale plays “has reached record highs, and lower domestic prices have helped to displace gas imports,” the EIA said.
The US made a net import of 52.8 billion cubic metres from Canada via pipeline in 2014, an 11% decline since 2009.
The US recorded a 54% drop in LNG imports for 2014 year on year, to 1.2 billion cubic metres of gas as LNG, continuing a five-year decline.
