SEOUL: LG teamed up with biometric specialist IRIENCE to bring its state-of-the-art eye-scanning system to its next flagship smartphone, according to report.

The LG G5 could be more than a year away, but the report suggests that the feature is being touted as a selling point for the 2016 device.

IRIENCE is apparently refining its iris-recognition system to work from 50cm away, so users don’t have to bury their face in their handset to activate it.

Eye-scanning technology allows users to unlock their phone at a glance, and is considered more secure than other biometric systems, such as facial-recognition.

LG is currently working on its G4 Note smartphone, but the biometric feature is not expected to be ready in time for this device.
