PESSI officials harassing traders, complains LCCI president

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called for restructuring of Social Security Department to turn it into a facilitator for of the business community in true spirit.

According to a statement issued here, LCCI President Ijaz A Mumtaz, Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir and Vice President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said that a number of LCCI members have complained that Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) is harassing them through issuance of notices and raids on the business premises.

They said that a large number of traders have also complained that they have reduced the number of their employees from 30 to 10 because of financial crunch but the Social Security Department was still demanding contribution of 30 employees.

The LCCI office-bearers said that representation should be given to the chambers in the PESSI Governing Body “proportionate to their contribution towards the fund of social security”.

They said that the Punjab government was taking all possible measures to turn Punjab into a hub of economic activities but some elements were trying to make all of these efforts futile.
