Mis-declaration in fabric import: Customs Intelligence registers 7 FIRs

KARACHI: Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-Customs, Karachi has registered seven FIRs against the different importers involved in mis-declaration of the import of textile/fabric.

The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Karachi and Pakistan Customs have held around 200 consignments of fabrics/textile for examination and laboratory tests in the last month.

Subsequently, the consignments which were declared as cotton blended were sent for laboratory test and after examination in laboratory it was revealed that some consignments among other were viscose blended instead of cotton blended, which involved duty/tax evasion worth billions of rupees.

In the light of laboratory reports, the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-Customs has lodged seven FIRs against those importers, who were involved in mis-declaration of viscose blended fabric as cotton blended fabric.

Sources informed this scribe that the directorate has forwarded the FIRs to Customs courts and further action is to be taken in this regard.
