Canada customs seizes $23K worth of drugs in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE:  A 24-year old man has been charged and police have seized nearly $23,000 worth of drugs in a Lethbridge crack bust orchestrated by ALERT late last month.

Mike Tucker of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team says on May 27, an integrated team comprised of Lethbridge Regional Police Service and RCMP officers executed a search warrant at an apartment suite located on Lakemount Blvd South on May 27.

“Investigators seized nearly $23,000 worth of crack cocaine that was packaged for street-level sales”, says Tucker.

Along with 229 grams of crack, Tucker says police also seized 75 grams of a buffing agent, $3,065 in cash proceeds of crime, cooking glassware used the crack production.

Staff Sgt. Rod Klassen of Lethbridge ALERT says the investigation into the Lethbridge crack operation began in early April after police received a tip about an alleged local crack supplier.

“The target of the investigation, Abdirahman Warsame, 24, was arrested inside the apartment at the time of the search”, says Klassen.

Warsame has been charged with the following:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Production of a controlled substance;
  • Possession of proceeds of crime;
  • Possession of a controlled substance.

Charges against Abdirahman Warsame have not been proven in a court of law.
