GULFPORT: Chiquita could keep their ripening facility at the Port of Gulfport. As WLOX News previously reported, Chiquita moved operations to the Port of New Orleans, but kept a temporary storage and handling agreement with the Port of Gulfport. The port welcomes Chiquita to continue operations in Gulfport. “Though we have not spoken directly to Chiquita, we are pleased to hear they will be keeping their ripening facility in Gulfport,” Port of Gulfport Executive Director Jonathan Daniels said in a statement Tuesday. “Anytime we can maintain a business in Mississippi is good news for the state.” Though the company does not have vessels that dock in the port, some of its containers do still come to the Port of Gulfport.
