Collector Nazim Saleem gears up efforts to stop smuggling at border points

KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs has geared up efforts to stop smuggling at border points of the country, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that Chief Collector-Enforcement -South Muhammad Nazim Saleem has decided to evolve a coordinated strategy with the help of all stakeholders to curb smuggling.

The sources further revealed that Chief Collector-Enforcement -South Muhammad Nazim Saleem in this regard has recently written a letter to Director General of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Collector-MCC Quetta and Collector-MCC Gwadar.

In the letter, the Chief Collector-Enforcement -South Muhammad Nazim Saleem has stressed the need for an effective action to stop smuggling of goods through biltee in different parts of the country.

The sources disclosed that Customs authorities have solid evidences that the smugglers’ cartels through a planned strategy are involved in smuggling of contraband items into the country.

Sources further said that the Customs authorities in recent days have seized a consignment at Quetta Border in which the unscrupulous elements were tried to smuggle a huge quantity of smuggled/non-duty paid items including auto-parts, tyres and others into the country. However; timely action of Customs authorities foiled that bid of smuggling while no arrest could be made in this regard.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem in his letter emphasized on evolving effective and comprehensive measures in order to bust the smugglers’ cartels.

To a query, the sources further informed that the Chief Collector-Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem and Director General of the Directorate of Customs I&I Lutfullah Virk would soon convene a meeting in this regard in which those high-ups with the help of the authorities concerned of all field formation Collectorates and anti-smuggling organizations would prepare an effective strategy for uprooting the menace of smuggling from the country.
