MEXICO CITY: Pemex’s port terminal Pajaritos is expected to ship a cargo of ethylene for the second time in the second quarter, sources said.

Mexico’s Petroquimica Mexicana de Vinilo or PMV — a joint venture of Pemex and Mexichem — was heard having a tender for an approximately 4,000-mt cargo of ethylene, with a mid-June loading date, market sources said. PMV last shipped a 3,700-mt cargo exiting Pajaritos aboard the Norgas Petaluma, and unloaded it early last week at the port of Moerdijk, Netherlands, according to Platts cFlow ship-tracking software. Indications were that this cargo was also bound for Europe as it was heard bidding for the cargo, a broker said.

Pajaritos handled almost 60 million barrels of crude oil and petrochemical derivatives during the first quarter of the year, the Mexican company said on its website.

The figure represented a more than 11% year-on-year improvement. Petrochemicals were included amid the 35 total products aboard the 292 vessels which contributed to the increase.

Pajaritos is a maritime terminal in the Gulf of Mexico that distributes material domestically and is involved in international trade with the United States and Europe.

Pajaritos –along with Altamira– are the only two petrochemical ports in Mexico. Altamira is located on the nation’s northern Gulf Coast; while Pajaritos lies further south on the Gulf. Pajaritos handles petrochemicals in addition to crude.
