Cuban ambassador dicusses to increase Lithuania export volume

HAVANA: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas received Ambassador of Cuba to Lithuania Enrique Orta Gonzalez, who resides in Helsinki, reported BC the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the officials discussed possibilities for cooperation between Lithuania and Cuba in political, economic, cultural and educational fields.

Deputy Minister Krivas has extended invitation to Cuban students to study in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian foreign deputy minister asked for the Cuban Government support of the candidacy of Professor Dalia Leinarte for membership in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.

Lithuania supports strengthening of relations between the European Union and Cuba. However, issues relating to human rights and fundamental freedoms in Cuba remain important. Currently, the negotiations for an EU-Cuba Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement are taking place.

Lithuania also welcomes the decision to renew relations between the US and Cuba.

Cuban Ambassador Orta Gonzalez presented his letters of credence to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite. He is the first Cuban ambassador to Lithuania.

In 2014, Lithuanian exports to Cuba increased 2.7 times and amounted to EUR 23.4 million. 70 percent of total volume of export from Lithuania to Cuba consisted of wheat and a mixture of wheat and rye.
