TORONTO: The Canada Border Services Agency is on alert for two convicted killers who used power tools to break out of a maximum-security prison near the Canadian border.
David Sweat, 34, and Richard Matt, 48, went missing from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y. Saturday morning.
Although the Canada Border Services Agency has no indication the pair may be making their way into Canada, spokesperson Jacqueline Roby said all of their agents at the border are on alert.
“When the CBSA gets information on high risk individuals or situations, we will input a lookout in CBSA systems and it can be accessed by all officers working on the border,” she told CFRA.
Roby said they are also working closely with the RCMP and U.S. customs.
Sweat and Matt managed to cut through steel pipes and walls to break out of their cell, then descended six storeys worth of prison steam pipes, emerging from a town sewer outside the prison walls.
