COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo have nabbed this morning an Indian national, who had allegedly attempted to smuggle out a stock of gems worth Rs. 9.7 million.
The suspect was arrested when he was at the airport to board a flight to Dubai.
The suspect had reportedly attempted to smuggle gems weighing a total of 200 carats concealed inside a cigarette pack.
The suspect will be fined and the gems will be confiscated, the Customs officer said.
