TORONTO: A medium-sized economy like Canada can’t be competitive everywhere. Our greatest advantage lies at home, in North America, where we can advance our role in the regional supply chain. If Canada puts its greatest focus on North America, this means intensifying our trading relationship with one of the most promising emerging markets in the world- Mexico. But why haven’t Canada and Mexico focused more on their two-way trade, apart from their trade with the U.S.? Much has changed since NAFTA was signed in 1994. Has Mexico finally become the kind of export and production partner that Canada needs? Can they work together to exert regional leverage? Wednesday, June 10(th), The School of Public Policy will release a report by Laura Dawson that examines why political leadership is needed now to build a stronger relationship with Mexico.
