SYDNEY: Ford has updated Ranger family with the name hero Wildtrak that will hit Australia later this year. The new Wildtrak follows in the footsteps of its predecessor with a bold sports styling kit.
Among the Wildtrak’s styling tweaks are a “liquid metallic” grey finish to the trapezoidal grille, side mirrors, door handles, side air vents, bed rails and tail lamps.
There’s also unique rectangular fog lights and a sports bar at the rear, along with 18-inch alloy wheels and new Wildtrak graphics.
And, of course, the signature orange paint scheme is again featured, made even bolder for the new model year.
That orange hue contines into the cabin as a strong accent colour, joined by shadow chrome highlights.
The Wildtrak also gets its own unique seats with graphic elements and orange contrast trim.
“We wanted to push the Wildtrak’s orange further, to give it a fun, tough feeling,” Ranger exterior design boss Dave Dewitt said.
“We call it Pride Orange, not just because of our pride in the Ranger, but also because it calls to mind a pride of lions i it conjures up the Wildtrak’s potential and adventurous spirit.”
Power in the Wildtrak is again provided exclusively by the top-shelf 147kW and 470Nm 3.2 litre five-cylinder Duratorq diesel, matched to a six-speed auto.
As with the wider range, the Wildtrak boasts a water wading ability up to 800mm deep, along with a 230mm ground clearance.
Likewise, the Wildtrak gets the same SYNC2 infotainment system and eight-inch main display offered in other Ranger models.
Other technology features include Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Stability Program, Driver Impairment Monitor and Emergency Assistance.
There’s also Hill Launch Assist, Hill Descent Control, Adaptive Load Control and Emergency Brake Assistance.
