PM for improving motorways network; special status to Gwadar

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday reiterated to lay down a network of motorways for national progress and establishing strong linkages to the countries in the region.

Speaking in National Assembly, the Prime Minister mentioned two different ongoing and new projects that will ensure economic progress and boost trade with Central Asian countries.

Responding to a point of order by an opposition member Nawaz Ali Wassan, the Prime Minister said, Islamabad-Lahore Motorway will be extended to Multan and from there to Sukkur. “The work on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway has started and soon you will see heavy machinery over there. Multan-Sukkur portion of motorway falls within China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), while Sukkur-Hyderabad portion will be completed by the government.” he added.

PM also said that Rs 30 billion is being allocated in the present budget for the construction of motorway under CPEC for the western route, while Khunjrab-Mansehra-Abbottabad-Havelian-Islamabad section of motorways is also under consideration.
