Conflict between PSO, PNSC can lead to shortage of petrol again: Senator Ashok

ISLAMABAD: Senator Dr Ashok Kumar has expressed his apprehension that the shortage of petroleum products could emerge owing to ongoing conflict between Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation.

Speaking in Senate after moving an adjournment motion in the Upper House, he said during the upcoming month of Ramazan, petrol shortage issue could erupt again in the country.

He said local refineries produce 150,000 MT petrol per month, while for the month of Ramazan, agreement of import of only 100,000 MT petrol was made between PSO and PNSC.

He said the country’s overall monthly consumption was about 450,000 to 500,000 metric tonnes of petrol.

He said that shortage of petrol in Karachi was hitting the roof again, so the minister for petroleum should inform the house that how the government would overcome this issue.
