Customs Court approves judicial remand of accused in mis-declaration case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent an accused to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

Accused Mohammad Rafique, who was allegedly involved in tax evasion and mis-declaration in import of betel leaf, was in the custody of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on physical remand for two days. The customs authorities interrogated the accused for two days to get more information regarding this case.

According to details, Muhammad Rafique was arrested by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation on a tip-off that he was involved in illegal import of betel leaf. The Customs Intelligence and Investigation also found heavy tax evasion of Rs 26 million in the wake of customs duty. Muhammad Rafique is a resident of Mughalpura, Lahore.

The Customs Investigation team presented him before the court and asked for his physical remand. After examining the request, Judge Nazeer Ahmad Gajana granted the remand.  After two days, the customs authorities produced the accused in court where the court sent him on judicial remand.
