Customs Preventive seizes smuggled goods worth over Rs50m during Dec-Jun

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Preventive has seized over Rs50 million worth of contraband/smuggled goods from December 01, 2014 to June10, 2015.

According to details, the MCC-Preventive authorities concerned registered 269 cases during the aforementioned period in which the Customs authorities seized contraband/smuggled items amounting to around Rs50 million (Rs57067173).

The Customs authorities during the seven months have registered 169 cases of smuggling and seized 824 bottles of liquor worth to Rs824,000 and 162 cans of imported beers amounting to Rs16,200.

During the same period, the MCC-Preventive registered 66cases of mobile phones smuggling and seized 1880 smartphones worth Rs15,150,978; 118 iPhones worth Rs3,116,300; 22 iPad Mini amounting to Rs34,340; 211 Tablet PC amounting to Rs1,084,610; 8 Mac Book amounting to Rs480,000; 15 X Boxes amounting to Rs330,000; 15 Play Station amounting to Rs150,000; assorted mobile phones worth Rs132,500; 290 USBs amounting to Rs87,000 and 281 mobile accessories amounting to Rs15,469.

The MCC-Preventive authorities also seized 246 imported wrist watches worth Rs24,600; 132 laptops worth Rs2,584,000; 12iP-Phones amounting to Rs75,000 and assorted medicines amounting to Rs8,673,700.

The Customs authorities during the corresponding period also seized 30 smuggled mobile LCDs amounting to Rs2970; 250 mobile PC Board worth Rs2550; 120 tolas smuggled gold amounting to Rs5,640,000; smuggled gold bars estimating one Kilogram amounting to Rs4,226,288; 3609gm assorted smuggled jewellery amounting to Rs13,066,500; 2LED TV 40’’ amounting to Rs97,768 and 31 satellite routers amounting to Rs1,252,400.

The sources informed Customs Today that Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) and Collector-MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda lauded the efforts of the officers and officials of MCC-Preventive and urged them to continue the same efforts for uprooting the menace of smuggling.
