German business delegation emphasizes on trade not ‘aid’

BERLIN: Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz received German Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Stephan Steinlein along with a 13-member strong business delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

The adviser highlighted Pakistan’s investment potential and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s emphasis on “trade and not aid”. He stressed that Pakistan was an investment-friendly country, and provided business opportunities to foreign investors in diverse areas of economy. Energy, especially renewable energy, could be an area of special interest to German investors, he added.

Sartaj Aziz also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism and extremism. He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to take forward the process of constructive engagement with Afghanistan and highlighted Prime Minister Sharif’s vision of a peaceful neighbourhood.

Steinlein stated that Pakistan was an important country for Germany, and it was desire of the German leadership to enhance its relations with Pakistan. The German delegation looked forward to positive engagement with their Pakistani counterparts for enhancing trade between the two countries.

He also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in Afghanistan and the vision of the Pakistani leadership for regional stability and economic development.
