TAIPEI: Shares in Taiwan extended losses Tuesday as renewed concerns over the debt problems in Greece dragged Wall Street lower, dealers said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended down 46.70 points, or 0.50 percent, at 9,212.78, after moving between 9,177.95 and 9,272.70. Turnover totaled NT$78.39 billion (US$2.53 billion) during the session.
The performance of electronics, financial and old-economy stocks were unsatisfactory. Optoelectronics, electronic parts and components, steel, foodstuffs and paper stocks were among the best performers.
Largan Precision Co., the most expensive stock on the local bourse, was up 1.38 percent to finish at NT$3,300, helping the index to end above the 9,200-point mark.
