Customs Adjudication reveals details of ONO issued against PTCL, Huawei, Rayan Agencies

KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has publicized the details of Order-in-Original (ONO) issued against M/s Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), its contractor M/s Huawei Technologies and clearing agent M/s Rayan Agencies.

According to details, the Collector Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Farid Iqbal Qureshi has imposed a penalty of Rs 50 million on importer M/s PTCL in its involvement in tax evasion of Rs 1.97 billion in terms of custom duty, sales tax and income tax in importation of telecommunication equipments including ASR 500-Multimedia Core Platform while applying the PCT 8471.5000 which attracting 1 percent customs duty, sales tax and income tax instead of 15 percent custom duty and other taxes.

The Collector Farid Iqbal Qureshi has also imposed a penalty of Rs 10 million on M/s Huawei Technologies, the contractor of M/s PTCL in importation of telecommunication equipments and imposed a penalty of Rs 5m illion on its clearing agent M/s Rayan Agencies. In the ONO, the Collector of Customs Adjudication-I has imposed total penalty of Rs 65 million on three parties including M/s PTCL, M/s Huawei Technologies and M/s Rayan Agencies.

The Collector of Customs Adjudication-I Farid Iqbal Qureshi in the ONO further ordered the alleged parties to deposit the differential amount in terms of custom duty, sales tax and income tax in the national exchequer while the accused parties decided to move Customs Appeals against the decision given by the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I.
