Sony confirms The Last Guardian is coming next year

TOKYO: Sony has finally confirmed The Last Guardian is coming next year. The Japanese game was first shown off back at E3 2009, but since then has never been mentioned officially at the PlayStation press conference. If that wasn’t enough, one of the biggest cheers of the entire day of press conferences was reserved for this.

Yes, Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to PS4. It’s exactly that a remake of the role-playing classic that first appeared in 1997, all grown-up for new-gen PS4.

Sony had the audience members on their feet, so decided they might as well keep them there, reeling off an impressive list of new trailers. They included a reboot of the hugely popular Hitman series, with Agent 47 set to be jetting off around the world to take out targets only he knows how.

This was joined by a very intriguing and eye-catching new franchise called Horizon Zero Dawn. The female protagonist appears to be part of a Native American tribe living off the land, yet it is in fact a dystopian future, where the cities have long since been abandoned and overgrown and robotic animals roam the sprawling green space. Intriguing, as we say, and it looks down-right gorgeous to go with it.

Before attention spans wained too much, we saw a candidate for the most “out there” game of E3 2015 in the form of Dreams. It’s from Media Molecule, the guys behind Little Big Planet – so there’s pedigree there to begin with. It’s hard to know where to start with this, other than it’s a blank canvas game where the controller is the brush, and players can create dream-like sequences and share them with others.

A mention must also go to the Batman Arkham Knight trailer for being one of the most chilling of the day – giving Doom a run for its money in the sinister stakes.

But then we arrived at Sony’s big headlines, and they came thick and fast. Beginning with a look at Call of Duty Black Ops III. Fast and frenetic just don’t cover it.

From here, Sony wanted to cement its place among the Star Wars fan club, and did so with two very different games. Firstly there was the news that this autumn; the Star Wars universe is entering the toys-to-life Disney Infinity 3.0 game (look out Skylanders).

Then, even though we’d already seen gameplay footage today, and got extremely excited, Sony did it to us again with gameplay footage of their own – in this instance, of the missions segment of the game.

And to finish, Sony’s big pull for the coming holiday season – yes, even over Star Wars – is Uncharted 4. We saw in-game footage for the first time, and it mostly certainly did not disappoint.

In truth, much like the first two days of press conferences, there’s been no glaring omissions, and the big studios and console makers look more competitive than ever – and that can only be a good thing for consumers.

With that, we shall leave you with the first look at Uncharted 4, and Nathan Drake’s driving skills.
