NOGALES: Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized nearly 1,700 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $847,000 at the Mariposa Commercial Facility in Nogales.
According to a CBP release officers found more than 274 packages of marijuana in the roof of a tractor-trailer driven by a Sinaloa man, identified as Ramon Emilio Felix-Lopez, after a drug sniffing canine alerted to possible drugs in the semi.
The drugs, semi and the shipment of mangos were seized by CBP and Felix-Lopez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations for processing.
This is fourth seizure of drugs, found in a commercial vehicle in the past month, according to the release. In earlier incidents the drugs were mingled either with the produce or hidden in the roof of the trailer.
