LAHORE: The Anti-Smuggling Wing of the Directorate of Investigation and Intelligence Lahore Customs, on the instructions of Director Imtiaz Ahmad Khan, has seized illegally imported goods and articles worth Rs 601.45 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 370 million registering 122 cases during the eleven months of fiscal year 2014-15.
According to details, Lahore Customs Anti-Smuggling Wing conducted various anti-smuggling operations and registered 122 cases impounding illegally imported goods and articles from July 2014 to May 2015 .
The anti-smuggling team of Customs registered 13 cases from July to February 2014-15 and impounded goods and vehicles including 12 vehicles, 310,555 yards of cloths, 257 tyres and tubes, Rs 8.26 million auto parts, 725 gallons of mobil oil, 4400 cartons of cigarettes, 2225 units of electronic goods, 213 blankets, 1443 kg pan prags, zafrani patti, 120, 000 kg gutka of all brands, Rs 240 million miscellaneous items including foreign made cosmetics, plastic dana Iranian made tiles and other such items.
The goods which were seized during the first month of the fiscal year 2014-15 were valued at Rs 76 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 51 million while in August the team impounded illegal items worth Rs 93 million involving taxes worth Rs 41 million during the period under review.
The Lahore Customs also seized contraband items worth Rs 14 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 14 million during the month of September while in the month of October the anti-smuggling team confiscated articles and vehicles worth Rs 61 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 32 million.
Similarly, the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigations impounded illegal goods and articles worth Rs 11 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 7 million in 17 cases while the directorate seized illegal imported goods worth Rs 18 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 17 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 17 million during the month of December 2014-15.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation anti-smuggling team comprising Nadeem Ahsan, Asad Farooq, Sohail Murtza, Saad Iqbal, Arif Hamid, Muhammad Hussain and Hamid Babar operated successfully under the surveillance of additional director Mohsin Rafique and superintendents Nasir Minhas and Manawar Khan.
