The four leaders of the ring got sentences for at least 10 years imprisonment each. The others received sentences of two or more years imprisonment.

The ring members were from eight countries, namely Finland, France, Belgium, Holland, Estonia, Lithuania, Somalia and Iraq, said Yle.

According to the investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation of Finland (NBI), the defendants were accused of having carried thousands of ecstasy tablets and tens of kilograms of amphetamines to Finland since March 2014.

NBI said the street value of the smuggled drugs amounted to several million euros.

The investigation of the drug smuggling case was carried out by NBI in cooperation with law enforcement in Holland, Lithuania, Poland, Belgium and France, as well as Europol, the European Union (EU)’s law enforcement agency, and Eurojust, an agency of the EU dealing with judicial co-operation in criminal matters.
