BEJING: Huawei is looking to make a bigger name for itself in the U.S., and it’s found a partner that can definitely help with that Google.

According to IBTimes UK, the companies have teamed up to develop a new Nexus Smartphone, which is slated to arrive later this year. Details of the new handset are scant, but an unnamed source who works for Huawei reportedly told the news outlet that the Shenzhen-based firm is “working closely” with Google on the new handset.

The source would not reveal any specifics about the device, or say when it’s expected to launch beyond later this year. IBTimes UK reckons that the handset will run Android M and arrive alongside the new mobile operating system.

Google has already worked with handset makers like HTC, LG, Samsung, and Motorola on its Nexus devices, most recently with Motorola on the Nexus 6 (pictured) and HTC on the Nexus 9 $350.00 at eBay.

Google is also reportedly working with LG on a second new Nexus Smartphone. Android Police said last month that Google will release two new Nexus phones in 2015 rather than a phone and a tablet, a first for the search giant.

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The rumored partnership comes after the U.S. House Intelligence Committee in 2012 warned U.S. companies to be wary of doing business with Huawei, arguing that the firm may be using its entrance into the U.S. market as a way to spy for the Chinese government. Huawei, however, denied those allegations, and said it has never been approached by or spied for government officials.
