SYDNEY: The Australian share market opened lower on Monday.
At the official market open, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index dipped 12.3 points, or 0.22 percent, to 5,584.7 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index retreated 11.3 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,580.2.
Material stocks were the morning’s biggest loser, falling 0.76 percent, BHP shed 0.88 percent while rival Rio Tinto dropped 0.79 percent.
Energy stocks lost 0.72 percent. Santos was down 1.32 percent but Woodside Petroleum inched up 0.11 percent.
Financials fell 0.06 percent. Westpac was up 0.15 percent and National Australia Bank gave up 0.24 percent.
The Commonwealth Bank retreated 0.4 percent and the ANZ dipped 0.03 percent.
The telecommunications sector grew 0.40 percent, with Telstra up 0.41 percent.
