ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has held the K-Electric responsible for deaths of citizens in Karachi and said that the federal government may take over the company if the situation did not improve in the metropolises.
While talking to media, he said that 650MW of electricity was being supplied to K-Electric despite the expiry of an agreement with the company. He said the agreement with the power company was yet to be reviewed.
Abid Sher said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was getting its quota of power but the federal government was blamed even if a transformer developed a fault. The minister was of the view that load management was the responsibility of the provincial governments.
“We are working with full capacity but people still blame us. As many as 675,000 transformers need to be replaced and each transformer takes 14 hours to replace,” he said .He said forced loadshedding was being carried out only in those areas where electricity losses ranged from 80 percent to 99 percent.
He said in case of any complaint, consumers could contact him personally on phone number 0300-8666111.
