HANOI: Vietnamese Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) says that crab exports have reached nearly US$30million, with even more due to be sent abroad in the coming months.

According to latest figures, Vietnam crab exports in the first four months of 2015 valued US$28.46 million, up 9.1% on the same period last year.

VASEP said that in these first four months, Vietnamese crabs were bound for 28 markets. Exports to Australia experienced the strongest growth among all markets at 170.3%. Hong Kong had the second biggest increase of 94.2%.

Vietnam’s top eight markets accounted for 95.6% of total crab export value with the US, EU and Japan in the top three representing 82.6% of exports.

Apparently, this year is predicted to be a good one. A rise in quota and price along with good inventory level in markets promises better sales for the Vietnamese export market.

Another factor that is bolstering the market is the price of fuel which has remained lower than the same period in 2014.

Also in 2015, FTAs with South Korea and the Eurasian Economic Union were signed, bringing Vietnamese exporters further advantages when exporting to these markets in the coming months.
