MADRID: The 15 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line at the Renault factory in Villamuriel de Cerrato in the province of Palencia (Castilla y León) on Tuesday, more than 60 years after the first Renault in Spain was manufactured in Valladolid (a 4CV, for those who are interested).

The vehicle which reached the landmark on Tuesday was a red Renault Kadjar, a new crossover model which features an Energy dCi 110engine from the Valladolid factory and a manual 6-speed gearbox which is manufactured in Sevilla. The vehicle will be delivered to its German owner in the course of the next few days.

The Villamuriel de Cerrato Factory was opened on 2nd January 1978, and in the last 37 years has produced emblematic models such as the R12, R18, R14, R9, R11, R21, R19, Laguna, Mégane I, Mégane II and Mégane III. The Kadjar has been in production since April this year, and sales were made as of 1st June, but it will be hard pushed to match the success of the Mégane: 4 million of these cars have been made in Villamuriel de Cerrato, and it is still one of the most popular in Spain.

The landmark at the Palencia Renault plant coincided with the publication of Renault España’s results for the year 2014, when a profit of 51 million euros marked a 46% improvement over the year before.
