Tokyo: Nissan is recalling 12,444 vehicles in Malaysia over potentially faulty Takata airbag inflators affecting its models here.
It said in a statement yesterday, the recall would involve 12,420 units of X-Trail (completely knocked down) (2002-2007), 20 units of Liberty (complete built unit) (2003) and 4 units of Teana (completely built unit) (2004) vehicle models, which are affected by potentially faulty Takata front passenger airbag inflators.
However, it said the recall does not affect the All-New Nissan X-Trail (T32) which was launched in the country on January 2015 and all other current selling Nissan models.
ETCM said it will contact all affected customers for the special service campaign to carry out the necessary corrective measures and if it is equipped with an affected inflator, the inflator will be replace with a newly manufactured one at no charge to the owner.
Prior to the Nissan recall, UMW Toyota Motor recently recalled 97,000 Toyota vehicles, due to the faulty airbags made by the same supplier, followed by Honda Malaysia which had made a second recall of another 46,710 units of Honda vehicles in June over the same reason.
Last month, Honda Malaysia recalled 87,182 units of its vehicles, which it said is necessary to replace the driver and passenger airbag inflators with newly produced inflators for all affected models.
