Microsoft Office will certainly draw attention of average users

LONDON: Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Android and iOS apps could be easily ported to Windows 10. This strategy has been criticized by some, but it coincides with the company’s mission to make Windows the standard. Over the next several years, Microsoft and its influence will seep into every aspect of our mobile and internet experience.

Microsoft isn’t stopping at just launching the app on Android, though. Microsoft is partnering with major players like Samsung, Dell, and LG to include Office apps in Skype as pre-installed apps on their devices.

The quick access to Microsoft Office will certainly draw the attention of average users, and Microsoft is hoping that will encourage them to subscribe to Office 365. The yearly subscription will give users access to a bevy of features, including use of Microsoft’s cloud-based services. Office 365 now makes up about 5% of Microsoft’s profits, but the company is hoping to expand it to roughly 20% in the next two to three years.

All of these methods are bold steps for Microsoft, a company that seems to be stuck in a rut. Hopefully these shifts are what the company needs to compete in the mobile market once again, but only time will tell.
