BANGKOK: Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plants Conservation (DNP) is poised to destroy 2.7 tons of seized illegal ivories by the end of July, a DNP official said here the other day.
With the cabinet’s approval of the destruction, the illegal ivories will be crushed into small pieces and then burned at the industrial waste furnace to minimize the impact on the environment, according to DNP Deputy Director-General Adisorn Noochdumrong.

The to-be-destroyed items, which were seized in the DNP’s operations and by the Customs Department, included ivories in perfect condition, sectioned pieces, as well as ivory-made objects, Adisorn said.
Meanwhile, another 477 kilograms of ivories will be sent to a university and the National Science Museum for research purposes, the official said. Enditem
