10,000 alcohol permits expire on June 30 in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department issues permits for the sale and purchase of alcohol to the Christian community only.

Sources told Customs Today that there are 10,000 permits holders in Punjab and all the permits are expired on June 30. The Excise Department issues these permits on specific terms and conditions to the persons of Christian community for sale and purchase of alcohol.

All of these 10,000 Christian permit holders will have to renew their permits from July 1, 2015 after paying their annual fee.

Excise and Taxation Department annually gets more than Rs 1 billion excise duty on sale of alcohol in Punjab. Now Director General Excise has issued a new circular to collect new surcharge from persons who wants to carry alcohol from one district to another. Officials said that this new surcharge will generate more revenue for the Excise department.
