France’s iron ore imports hit 1.29mt in April

PARIS: The iron ore imports by France during the month of April this year declined considerably in comparison with the imports recorded during the same month a year ago. This is as per the latest trade statistics released by EUROSTAT. The imports during the month dropped sharply by 10% year-on-year.

The country’s iron ore imports during the month totaled 1.29 million tonnes. The iron ore imports had totaled 1.43 million tonnes during April last year. The average import price during April this year declined 53.10% over the previous year to $54.60 per tonne CFR. The prices had averaged at $116.42 during the same month a year ago. The total value of imports amounted to $70.434 million, significantly lower by almost 57.7% when compared with the import values of $166.48 million recorded during April 2014.

The largest import source of iron ore by France during Apr ‘15 was Canada. The total imports from Canada amounted to 613,000 tonnes. The second largest exporter of iron ore to France during March this year was Brazil. The total imports by France from the country totaled 546,000 tonnes.

The cumulative iron ore imports by France during the initial four-month period in 2015 totaled 5.20 million tonnes. The imports during this period were 9.9% lower when matched with the imports during the corresponding four-month period in 2014.
