Suspect sent on judicial remand in Rs 500 million tax evasion case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved the judicial remand of accused Amjad Amin who is involved in tax evasion of almost Rs 500 million.

The Special Court had already approved his physical remand two times. He was in custody of Customs investigation team for the last four days. Now the court has sent him to jail on judicial trial.

Accused Amjad Amin had been importing containers from China from quite some time. After passage of a considerable period, customs authorities received credible information that the accused is involved in mis-declaration of goods. They said that the accused was not declaring the actual amount of the imported goods. When customs authorities scrutinized his documents, they found a fraud of Rs 500 million in the form of tax and duty evasion.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation arrested him and presented him before the Court where they got physical remand of the accused twice.

Ajmal Amin is a resident of Lahore and a well-known importer. He has been engaged in the import business for quite some time.

Now, Special Court Judge Nazeer Ahmed Gajana has sent him to jail on fourteen days judicial remand.
