Customs Preventive exceeds tax collection target by 19pc in FY2014-15

LAHORE: The Model Customs Collectorate Lahore Preventives has exceeded its target by collecting additional 19 percent revenue for the financial year 2014-15.

The collectorate, according to data, collected Rs 29.73 billion against the target of Rs 25.07 billion. Official sources added that Preventive Collectorate surpassed its target of customs duty by Rs 1.07 billion.

It also exceeded its target of combined duties and taxes by Rs 4.66 billion, while its total target was 25.07 billion but it collected Rs 29.73 billion, they added.

During the month of June, extra efforts were made for revenue collection, and more than Rs 110.5 million was realised from confiscated gold, more than Rs 70.2 million from foreign currency, and more than Rs 100 million from audit related recovery, the sources further said.

It would be worth mentioning that the Anti-Smuggling Organization, particularly, remained very vibrant during the period and the team on the instructions of Collector Mukarram Jah Ansari under supervision of Deputy Commissioner Shafiqur Rehman and Superintendent Mumtaz Ajmal Mian made a number of major confiscation including 25 kg gold, foreign currency and illegally imported cloth.
