TOKYO: Subaru new special edition of the BRZ sports car, the BRZ tS is now available in Japan. The product of Subaru Tecnica International (tS stands for ‘tuned by STI’), the Japanese carmaker says its new model offers all the STI benefits one might expect, including “inherent handling pleasure enabling drivers to control it at will”.

This new model follows the BRZ tS of 2013, which offered similar STI enhancements.

Performance goodies include 18-inch aluminium wheels wearing grippy Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres and housing Brembo brakes (complete with STI logo) with four-piston callipers up front and twin-piston at the rear.

STI has turned the front and rear suspension, along with the BRZ’s electronic stability control unit for a sportier response.

Power comes from the same 2.0 litre horizontally-opposed four-cylinder petrol engine that moves the regular BRZ, making 147kW and 205Nm. Customers can choose either a manual or automatic transmission – both six-speed.

A scorching Sunrise Yellow paint finish will be available, limited to 100 units, while WR Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl and Crystal Black Silica are the other colour options.

The total production run is limited to 300 units, but Subaru said the order book will close in mid-October regardless of the number pre-ordered.

The tS also wear an STI-designed front spoiler, front bumper and LED headlamps, along with numerous STI logos.

Inside, the tS features Recaro seats, STI instruments and a red STI push-button starter along with Alcantara leather and carbon-fibre trimmings.

Pricing for the 2015 Subaru BRZ tS in Japan starts from 3,990,000 yen (AU$42,356) including tax for the six-speed manual model. An Australian debut is not on the cards.
