BRASILIA: Between July 13-17, eight companies within the Brazilian leather sector will participate in a Trade Mission in Vietnam. The initiative is organised by Brazilian Leather, sectorial project of the Brazilian leather managed by the CICB in partnership with Apex-Brazil.
The program includes technical visits and round tables in Ho Chi Minh, as well as the attendance of the fair Shoes & Leather Vietnam, the country’s biggest fair for the leather and footwear segments. Starting from this trade mission, the project aims at putting in contact Brazilian suppliers within the growing Vietnamese market.
According to the Executive President of the CICB, José Fernando Bello, the expectation is that the initiative would bring around US$10 million through sectorial exchanges. “Vietnam is the fourth biggest buyer of hides and leather in the world. In 2014, it imported US$1.3 billion of raw material. The forecast is that it is going to double its consumption by 2025”, he commented. “The country has more than 600 factories for footwear and leather goods. It produces a billion pair of shoes and 150 million handbags every year, 40% of which are leather made. There are no doubt that Vietnam is growing, and, if so, the Brazilian leather and hide sector has to be there”, he said.
In 2014, six companies attended the trade mission, which brought around US$ 5.3 million for the sector.
