HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares edged up 0.19 per cent after the open Friday, brushing off losses on Wall Street, but mainland Chinese markets tumbled again despite regulators relaxing margin trading rules to temper recent losses.
The Hang Seng Index added 50.64 points to 26,332.96.
In Shanghai, the composite index dropped 3.43 per cent, or 134.06 points, to 3,778.71.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, lost 3.89 per cent, or 86.18 points, to 2,129.63.
