MEXICO CITY: A Mexican federal judge ordered the release of a suspected cartel boss who has a history of getting arrested and released by authorities. As he was leaving the courthouse, authorities arrested him again.
The case of Ruben “El Menchito” Oseguera Gonzalez appears to follow the long standing tradition of the Mexican court system that releases the cartel bosses after Mexican officials have made a spectacle about their capture.
Oseguera Gonzalez was initially captured on June 23 along with his brother-in-law Julio Alberto Castillo in an operation in which authorities seized various weapons, Mexico’s SinEmbargo.Mx reported, adding that at the time the Mexico’s National Security Commissioner identified him as the second-in-command of the feared Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG).
The arrest was wildly publicized in Mexico, where the CJNG, as previously reported by Breitbart Texas, has begun to make a name for itself as a violent criminal organization that used dynamite sticks to blow up a young child, has actively fought with Mexican federal and state police forces and has even shot down a Mexican military helicopter carrying a squad of Special Forces soldiers.
The CJNG is currently run by Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, who is El Menchito’s father and remains at large.
According to SinEmbargo.Mx, the younger Oseguera is accused of being the financial brain of the cartel, however a Mexican federal judge in Toluca ordered that Oseguera and his brother-in-law Castillo be released stating that Mexico’s attorney general’s office had failed to provide enough evidence against the two suspects.
The judge claimed that while enough evidence showed that a criminal organization known as the CJNG existed, investigators were not able to provide enough evidence to link the two men to the criminal organization.
As Oseguera was set to leave a maximum security prison in Mexico known as Altiplano, Mexican Federal Police arrested him once again but this time on a charge similar to kidnapping.
The young capo has a previous history of being released by Mexican judges. In January 2014, federal authorities had arrested him on similar charges, however, he was released months later after a judge cited lack of evidence.
As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, the Mexican court system has a long history of releasing jailed drug capos either for lack of evidence or by reducing their sentences once they are already in prison serving their term.
